2-26-04 Groveton to Pittsburg to Errol Ride Report
A midweek ride on the last week of February is just what the boys needed. We started a little late from Grovetown due to some gastro-intestinal problems with # 5. The trails were in prestine condition. We were riding on loose grandular snow that was groomed to perfection. Route 5 was smooth sailing on a bright, sunny morning. The temperature was a perfect 30 degrees. The Pres had outlined a trip to Pittsburg to an ungroomed trail that lead to the Canadian border. Who were we to break the ole guy's heart? Let's get back to # 5's stomach, not good. He was blowing chunks from both outlets. WPR apologies to all the bathrooms that 5 condemned. We ate lunch in Pittsburg around 12:30 with 62 miles under our belts at this point. There were many sleds on the trails on this day, but we were determined to get some good riding in. We headed east and north from the resturaunt (that red barn next to the mobil station in Pittsburg, the name escapes me). The conditions were still fabulous as we made it 30 miles to our destination "The ungroomed trail". These were the first bumps we encountered all day. # 5 was dragging behind most of the day, but never ever ever complained. # 2 even suggested that we head back, # 5 would hear nothing of it. He was going to ride these trails even if he completely had blow his insides out. We decided to hit the sand pits. We all hit jumps, did some hill climbs and messed around. # 10 put on a clinic on how to hill climb with a steep ridge at the top (see picture) That angle of the picture of him jumping up top does not tell the whole story. He was balls-out' on all the jumps/climbs. It looked pretty hairy. 2, 1 and 5 didn't even attempt what he did. Kudo's to # 10. You took the prize on this day. We took a break .5 miles from the Canadian border. The trail just ended, like a cul-de-sac. We later found another sand pit. Johnny 5 jumped out of his shell (and character) for that day and mounted a sick' hill climb higher than any other thus far. #2 took a shot at # 5's track and just couldn't get higher. # 5 suddenly feeling better, tried another. See the pictures of his sled wedged between the hill and a stump. The hill was very steep and the possibility of "rolling" concerned the rest of us. We had to climb that hill that was thigh high with untouched snow. It took about 30 minutes to get the 500 pound bitch off the hill. Sweaty, tired and realizing the loss of time, we wanted to get back on the trails and head south for some more riding. The only problem was that the pres pushed his luck on one more hill climb. He got stuck and rolled his sled. Nice little dent on the belly pan by the way. That took about 15 minutes to get out. Sweatier and even more tired we embarked on the 90 miles home. We went east and south toward Errol for gas. We took routes 112 and 18 to Errol. We rode on some thin trails near Errol. We saw some Buffaloes or some Bison. They were Bulls with curved short horns. They reminded me of the King Cut Prime Rib at Outback (love that place) as i digress. It was getting dark and cold around 5pm. After gassing up we headed back routes 18 to 115 to 19. These were excellent trails with several elevation changes and scenic views as the sun was setting. We made it back to the trucks by 6:00pmand we headed home by 6:30pm. We rode 184 miles by my tripdometer. It was a great pleasure to ride all day on groomed trails at a comfortable pace. That ride home was fantastic, and also an excellent route. Thank you gentlemen. I would like to reiterate that Johnny 5 was hurting but never said a word about it and was a trooper all the way.

Subject: Ride Report from Jan 31st through Feb 8th.
I went to Rangley Maine with my brother in-law and some friends. The trail conditions varied, ranging from excellent to poor. As we rode north the trails were disappointing, as we rode on rocks. I did see more wildlife this year than any other. We ran into a herd of moose. It was nice to go, but I was disappointed with the lack of snow. I rode a total of 670 miles. #27

One Sick Ride: Rumney 2/16/04
After picking up the Yamaha from the Pres, I proceeded to take a complete novice to #6's place in Rumney, NH. It was sunny and perfect for riding. It was Monday, president's day. We started on the powerlines on 153 where the snow was pretty good. There were some rocks sticking out but not too many. We proceeded down a familiar 23 to 11, this the identical trip we took last Sunday. The trails were in fairly good shape with a few bumps, but not the kind of bumps that keep the advil company afloat. We had just downed Bacon Double Cheeseburgers just prior to liftoff, perhaps not the greatest idea. Some of the trails are paved roads during the other 3 seasons, they were fast and fun. We saw tremendous elevation changes throughout the day since 6's place is near the top of a mountain. 25 miles in and sweating like pigs, we stopped for a drink at the Hebron Country Store. While sitting and drinking a Powerade (me) and a Milk (first time rider) we noticed the WPR club donation shamrock displayed at the store. We got a kick out of that. We decided to head back toward the truck so that we would be close enough to take off when the "New Guy" decided enough was enough. He was keeping up all day riding my Polaris while I rode the Yamaha. He showed great promise for a first time rider. It was a not a first for me leading, but it was just the second time. Unfortunately, the two maps that I purchased were too small. They showed trails that we were riding on go right off the end of the map. That was why we stayed on familiar paths. There was a short cut up a steep hill with two jumps on it. For a goof, I went up it to see if John was up to the task. He passed the first test with flying colors getting the sled airbound and powering up the hillclimb.
While riding home, I notice that John was not keeping up, unusual for the ride since he was doing great. He then dropped the bomb that he felt sick. He puked over and over and then some. Anyone have any ideas for the helmut decontamination? He said he didn't get any on the helmut, but I find that hard to believe. He told me to keep riding while he screamed at his boots. I took him up on it since he was a little shy about having a witness of him marking his territory with his lunch. When we went back to Greg's we had to climb a pretty hairy hill, John passed test number two. I fully expected him to get the Polaris stuck. Apparently, he is not afraid of the horsepower. He tossed cookie after cookie as I loaded both sleds on the trailer. He was one sick Wymanpond Racer.
We totalled 60 miles, approximately 55 vomits, and believe it or not we had a great time. I would like to extend a special thanks to the Pres for his generosity in letting me use his sled. This will not be a habit. Another thanks to Greg for his hospitality, although he only found out I went there after we left. Be careful what you say and I quote "Come up here anytime you want". I showed up 8 days later.
Trail Boss for a day, # 1.

The first of many rides (hopefully) within the Brookline and Hollis trail system. #13 and I started off in my backyard and quickly jumped on some trails connecting to the Brookline Icebreakers trail system. The first stretch was a little bumpy due to some recent logging activity, but with a little more snow it shouldn’t be noticeable at all. Connected to the trail head and after about a mile to mile and a half we were coming down the banks onto Lake Potanipo. Hit 100 mph crossing the lake then stopped to check out some ice fisherman and some trusting sole with his Chevy 2500 and 4 place, V-Nose enclosed trailer parked on the ice next to a fishing hut. Next we wanted to see if we could get over to the Townsend trails so we jumped on what looked like the trail towards Townsend. Turns out, we took a nice tour of a trailer park. Indecently, #13 stopped in at the office to find out prices. He figured, after he got home late for a christening today, Mrs. #13 was going to make him move out. Once we got on the real trail to Townsend it was a nice mixture of single track trails with wide open rail beds. Had to ride for a short amount of time on a dirt road , but found the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border. Trails into Mass were not groomed yet, but looked nice. Headed back towards Potanipo on nicely groomed trails then took the “Ben Farnsworth trail northwest towards Milford. Again, the trails were nicely groomed single track and rail beds. Along the way we passed quite of few sleds during the ride. After playing a little more on the lake, we headed back towards Pope Road. Came to and intersection and decided to take a left on some of the Hollis trails towards Rocky Pond before heading home. A little rocky (no pun intended) and almost ran a father and his son on a two-up off the trail. Came to Rocky Pond and did a couple of speed runs before heading home. Overall the trails could use a little more snow, but they were still pretty good. Total riding time: 2hrs 15mins. Approx. 35-40 miles and about half a tank of gas without riding the same trails twice.
As a side note, as I was writing this ride report, I heard two sleds going by my house. The father and his son that I almost ran off the trail, live across the street from me. Oops.

North Groton NH
# 6 hosted family day for Wpr. Myself and # 1 with kids made the trip to his getaway spot in the white mountains. I made great time 2 hrs just to get stuck in # 6 drive way. With a little shoveling and unloading of the sleds I was out. # 1 arrived just shortly after i got out of that snow bank. # 6 has made allot of progress on his camp. The shed has been moved giving them a great view and plenty of sun. The wood stove is in and seemed to do a great job heating the place. Boy do i want a re-treat snowmobile camp.
We made it out on the trail by 10:30am. The group consisted of 7, 4 rider's and 3 passengers. The good old skidoo 1 lunger once again made the trek flawlessly. # 6 was on the Yamaha. There is a good amount snow in this area and groomed. The only bad trail was the power lines (RT 151) approx 7 miles of the 36 miles we traveled. We ate lunch @ the Hebron Store near New found lake. We returned back to # 6 places @ 3:30pm. Trails traveled RT 151, RT 24, RT 11, rt153 and a few connector trails

A little late, but here it is....ride report from "THE HILL"
Day one:
Drove 5 1/2 hours from work to The Edge hotel, in Lyons Falls, new York. I arrived at 11:00 pm. After check in, and loading my gear into the room, I finally got to meet all these CLOWNS I've chatted and bashed for the last 4+ years. The ANNUAL "Tug Hill Cruisin" is a ride for members from the snowmobilenews.com chat room "trash talkers".
I off loaded my sled, and went for a short ride....short as the current temp that night was a cool -28 degrees.
Thursday morning, topped off fuel, and warmed the sled...preparing for the first ride. Morning temp was a chilly -30 degrees. We rode off as a single group of 24 riders. We made several stops during the day....way more than normal. With the bellow zero temps, everyone voted for many stops to get out of the cold and warming up. We did lunch at 11:30, at the Flatrock Inn (home of watercross). Daytime high temp: -13.5 degrees.......less the 20-30 mph WINDCHILL!
We rode the area trails, many of which are dirt roads turned snomo trails. Mileage for the day: 110
Day 2.....we suited up and hit the south and east side trails, rode hard, rode hard, rode fast. We made 4 stops, including lunch and dinner..........the weather was a lot warmer, peaking at a whopping 8 degrees for the day. Total miles:105
Day 3, Saturday....temps warmer still, at 22 degrees......we traveled East and North on the hill, including a lake race........shore to shore, 7 miles. I raced a ZR 900, who has been giving me shit for over a year about riding an "old man's sled".....BEAT HIS ASS....TWICE!! Rode the afternoon...some woods, some powerlines, and many fast roads....mileage:125
Day 4, Sunday....woke to light snow, on the trails at 10:00......rode the hill, and many open rolling hills...played in fresh powder, did a casual luch, and headed back early as to load up and head home. Mileage:55
Total miles of the trip: 405
Not a big mile trip, as expected....more of a ride to meet friends from the 'net, and a LOT of eating and partying. Signage left a LOT to be desired. The trails where perfect all week, except for Sunday....high traffic, means beat trails.

Bad News for # 34 and # 36 as there sleds and trailer were stolen from Quebec City on the last night of our trip. This is just real up setting to me. I hope the local Police get lucky and find these scumbags.

Trip Day One (Sorry No GPS Data)
After meeting in Brookline NH, at 1:00am, six WPR Racers traveled in a convoy to St Foy, Quebec. Kyle and Adam suggested moving up the departure time so we would not miss too much football. After quickly unloading at the exquisite Motel Collabri at 9:30am we were ready to embark on a ride Northeast up ITS 3 headed for the Casino de Charlevouix some 146 miles away. It was our intent to get there by 3:30pm for the AFC Championship game. As Pats fans completly put off by all of the nausiating Payton Manning worshiping going on all week, we wanted to see if that freak hillbilly could play some football in New England in January.
Duane and Bill joined the group shortly after we arrived and we headed up the local trails to catch ITS 3. We had not eaten, but were more hungry for some riding. Reports had indicated that the riding was good to poor. The reports were not accurate. The riding was fantastic. A 7 out of 10 at the beginning of day one. Mother nature decided that the 8 dedicated riders needed a brand new surface to ride on. The snow came down hard enough to accumulate several inches on the trek to Charlevouix, but not too much to hinder our vision. We kept a torrid pace with the Trail Boss leading most of the way. We had passed two warming huts on the way and voted against stopping for breakfast both times. Most of the way, the Pres was just behind the trail boss so the two could confer on direction, pace and need for fuel. The next group had Dave, Kyle and Adam in no particular order. The rest were No. 1, Duane and Bill. Bill did not have picks on his sled, but was equal to the task as he brought up the rear of the pack right on our tails. Bill was on his first ride with us up north and never kept us waiting. Understandably, the trail boss can be a bit chippy if you pick up your hood too often. We were there to ride and we rode. After 73 miles, without a fill up, we stopped at the warming hut on Route 3 where there were Christmas Lights last year. We gassed up and ate tiny cheeseburgers and French (Canadian) fries and then were off like a prom dress. The snow was coming down pretty hard by this point and we wanted to get to the Casino for game time. The snow fall, along with the snow dust kicking up, made my sled ride a little rough, but it was not really a problem. The Trail Boss' idea to tape up his vents was laughed at at first but was copied by most by the end of the trip. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
We rode this memorable section of ITS 3 for I guess 30 more miles, I swear some of that section must be paved road under the snow. We then decided to get off ITS 3 and take 378 which was a (green) local trail over a huge mountain. This trail was twisting, turning, up and down just exactly what we were there for. I loved that part of the ride. We switched over to 378 to finish the last leg of the journey. We arrived at the golf course which we new was right next to our destination. This Golf course would be a struggle in chapter two, but was a sight for sore eyes in chapter one. We arrived at the casino at 3:15pm and checked in by 3:45. We missed most of the first quarter of the game, but were happy to see a 7-0 lead by the good guys. We watched the rest of the game over some cold frothy Labatt's Blues. The final tab was not bad for post riding football. Duane actually fell asleep in the bar in front of the big screen. We were going to leave him there as a little joke, but Bill (nice guy that he is) said come on Duane - time for the buffet dinner. We went to the jacuzzi after purchasing suits for $11 Canadian. These suit were obviously made by the Huggies Corporation. Memorable moment...Dave, already wet, walking over to a snow pile an making a snow angel in frigid conditions then jumping back into the hot tub. We went to the casino for more beer and gambling. A great ending to a pretty damn good day.

#34 and SELF off loaded at the lower falls, and rode thru up the cog, down ITS 12, thru the PINE Mountain trail....nice look-off over the Gorham Valley.
We rode 12 back to the 11N corridor, and North towards Berlin and Milan. Trail condions varied, the woods sections semi-rutted, and occasional washouts....the pipeline section, FLAT AND FAST, the powerlines were decent, with spotty washouts.
Just outside Milan, we turned around due to reports of nasty sections of trail.
We left late....on the trail at 10:00, returned to load the sleds at 5:00, and logged on 132 miles. HOME BY 7:30!!
Best part of trip......the cog road, sliced and diced with 4 idiot racer-wanna-bes.......BLASTED 'EM ALL AWAY! ![]()

2...the "BIG ONE" rode the streets, cruised by WORK, and left tracks EVERYWHERE!
Rode the tracks, to the State fields...did about 30 laps, rode to the Town forest, to the Town fields...did a few DRAG passes....I won? HUH!!

12-30-03 Diamond Pond to Pittsburg figure 8 loop, Attended By #2 and # 5
The planned trip north quickly fizzled out on Monday night. First it was # 1, and then it was # 3, # 10 seemed doubtful then confirmed it late Monday evening. # 5 was my only hope. The weather was also against us as the forecast took a turn for the worse. #5 had a mandatory meet in Providence but vowed to call if the meeting ended early. The call came in Tuesday morning @ 8:30 am. "I am out"# 5 said after a little persuading a plan came together. I must admit i wasn't thrilled to leave so late. I have clearly lost any sensible reasoning with this new purchase.
2:30 pm and we finally made it to the drop area on the shore's of diamond pond, and greeted by snow. There is plenty of snow up here regardless of what story you have been told. We saw very little mud but for the most part when we did, there was almost always a path of snow to stay on. Out of the 60 miles we covered approx 30 mile were perfect the other 30 mile were bumpy mainly in the corners. # 5 gets major WPR racer of the Year points for pushing us up north to ride and salvage what seemed to be uneventful day off. The trip Home was the worst, we left @ 6pm and my head hit the pillow @ 12 pm

Max Speed 95 mph, however, i don't believe it. 79.9 mph was what i saw after really pushing it up hill on RT 20

Subject: RIDE REPORT!!!
34 and SELF went to the TWINS yesterday. Being gluttons for punishment, we offloaded in the Notch and rode up. Snow and groom were EXCELLENT in the Notch. ITS 11 up to the Teins....TERRIBLE, at best.....lots of washouts, and broke trail for 2 miles up to the Twins. From Twin to Fabyans...excellent. Cog Trail, AWESOME. ITS 12 railbed...smoothest ever. I topped speedo out (100+mph)....kinda wish I new how accurate it is. ITS 19 North CLOSED. Rode 12 back across to Whitefield. Passed 4 dogsled teams. 102 back to Twins, rough thru the woods, but the railbed was great....although a lil rail showing from time to time.

The Trail Boss earns his Title Again.
#3 takes the helm as usual and leads us out to the woods for another night of what seemed to be a typical pearl hill run. In attendance were # 5, # 99, # 3 and myself # 2. I think # 3 has been out scouting trails on his lunch hour and / or those picking up the kids @ school bit. Tonight all of his worked played off big. We racked up what i believe is an all time high of local woods riding in Mass 70 Miles worth. The trail consisted of tight woods, some wide trails and Field runs. Conditions were decent! My Gps stats (from the furthest point from the killing fields) AVG speed 23.8mph, max speed of 74 mph. Sorry my battery's died. Now for the bad new, my wonderful new sled ran out of gas @ the 70 Mile Mark!!!! Not good. But the question remains, how much more gas could i have put in the sled???

RIDE REPORT 12-7-04
The night started with 2 truly dedicate Snowmobiler wondering where were the other members? The Patriots Game? Family Time ? Just too much to do and tired? These are just a few of stories. Well anyways you all missed a very good season starting ride with the Trail Boss and the Pres. We traveled though Willard Book to Damon pond back to pearl Hill, out to the power lines, and some deep woods exploring. Condition was very good for most part. A little more snow on this base would have been perfect. The pearl Hill loop was clearly well traveled most of the snow was off to sides.
Some Gps Stats: Our moving Avg was 18.2 mph, we traveled 36.6 Miles, My max speed was 61.6 mph and we rode for 1 hr and 59 minutes.
The Skidoo was nice and very comfortable, the sled is very smooth with no vibrations and the clutch is tuned for slow tight trails (perfect for Mass). The front end did seem to push more than i would prefer @ speed, i just couldn't trust it. Not being studded clearly reminds me of why i stud. Wind protection seemed acceptable, the temperature was approx 18 degree's and i was never cold. Then again the most of our riding was in the woods @ an avg of 18 mph. The hand warmers only have 1 usable setting Low works well. The high setting is even worse than the Yamaha. I swear the rubber is about to melt. The windshield hand guards are annoying on tight corners as they hit my knees.
